Tapovan Dehradun Uttarakhand
Tapovan, a sacred place, is located at a distance of about 5 km from the city of Dehradun. It is a scenic place on the banks of the sacred Ganges.
This place is known for its popular belief that Guru Dronacharya had undergone his penance here. Guru Dronacharya was the Guru of the Kauravas and the Pandavas in the epic Mahabharata. This belief leads to curiosity among tourists as well as religious people.
It is a very holy place that radiates spirituality into the air. It spreads devotion and is situated close to the river Ganga which adds to the holiness of the place. Tapovan is surrounded by greenery and the sound from the river makes the ambiance very soothing which heals all the sorrows and one could feel the positive vibes there.
The chanting of auspicious hymns relating to Hindu mythology and Vedas will take you through a spiritual feeling.
Tapovan is well-known location for meditation and other spiritual purposes. Too many sages can be seen here doing meditation and other sacred rituals dedicated to God.
The ashram also holds periodic yoga courses.
Local Attractions
- Kalinga War Memorial Monument: The only war memorial of its kind in the world which was erected by the British to honor their enemy, the Gurkhas.
- Malsi Deer Park(zoo): It is located approximately 10km from the city on way to Mussoorie. The park is home to two-horned deer, Neelgai, and a variety of birds.
- Sai Baba Mandir
It is located in the vicinity of the Raipur/Sahastradhara crossing. One can reach the place by using private transport or other means of transport like buses and taxis.
